Lattice releases HDMI 2.1 products SiI9437 and SiI9438 that support eARC technology

In September, the HDMI Forum Inc. introduced the latest HDMI 2.0b interface standard and officially announced the HDMI 2.1 specifications. As the most widely used audio and video interface, HDMI has become the dominant technology in the AV market, found in TVs, monitors, PCs, smartphones, and more. Portland, Oregon — November 29, 2017 — Lattice Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: LSCC), a leading provider of customized smart interconnect solutions, announced the launch of SiI9437 and SiI9438, the first Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) audio receiver and transmitter compliant with the HDMI 2.1 standard. eARC is a forward-looking feature designed to significantly enhance home theater connectivity. This new audio function, part of the updated HDMI 2.1 specification, was developed by the HDMI Forum, which includes over 80 major consumer electronics companies. As a founding member and early adopter of the HDMI standard, Lattice continues to lead the market with its new HDMI 2.1 products that support eARC. With eARC, audio equipment can seamlessly work with TVs, allowing users to control devices using just the TV remote—no extra steps needed. The technology uses two pins of the HDMI interface (same as the HDMI Ethernet channel) to transmit low-jitter, high-bandwidth audio and two-way communication signals for device discovery and control. This is a major improvement over older TOSLINK and SPDIF outputs, which require separate cables and lack the necessary communication support between audio devices and TVs. Joanna Skrdlant, general manager of Xperi's home audio equipment and solutions licensing business, stated, “DTS (now Xperi) is excited to collaborate with Lattice on eARC technology, which addresses long-standing compatibility challenges in home theater systems. We believe the features offered by eARC will greatly enhance the consumer experience, enabling simpler connections between TVs and audio devices and delivering immersive audio from ultra-high-definition Blu-ray discs, DTS: X, and DTS-HD content.” Marshall Goldberg, marketing manager at Lattice Semiconductor, added, “HDMI has always promised consumers the best digital audio and video quality and an easy-to-use setup. eARC represents a significant step forward in home theater connectivity, offering better audio quality than TOSLINK or SPDIF without needing an AVR. Additionally, the new discovery function ensures compatibility across different manufacturers' products.” ![Lattice releases HDMI 2.1 products SiI9437 and SiI9438 that support eARC technology](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/19/4U/05/1S-0.jpg) The introduction of eARC makes high-performance audio systems as simple as using the TV’s built-in speakers. The key features of Lattice’s HDMI 2.1 SiI9437 and SiI9438 eARC ICs include: - Support for both TV and audio equipment - Compatibility with existing HDMI transmitter or receiver ICs across all HDMI versions - Support for HDMI 2.1 eARC and HDMI 1.4 ARC mode with automatic fallback - Support for eARC control channel via I2C interface - 4mm x 4mm QFN package with 0.4mm lead pitch - Support for eARC data channel including lip sync, discovery, heartbeat, status, and function signals
