Internet of Things Application Case: Accurate Sensor Probing Water Automatic Monitoring System

Last year's "July 21" heavy rainstorm caused serious water accumulation in the Nangangwa section of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway, and the two-way lane was impassable. Before entering the flood this year, the SF Group started the transformation of the Nangangwa Pumping Station to increase the drainage capacity. At the same time, it added a water accumulation automatic monitoring system for the first time in this section, using sensors to accurately detect the water accumulation depth. Once the water level reaches 27 cm, it will automatically alert the command platform .

Before the flood season this year, the intelligent automatic monitoring system was newly installed on the Nangangwa section of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway. This real-time monitoring system constructed by cameras, water scales, and sensors will change the situation in which the water was judged by naked eyes. This is also the first time this system has been added to Beijing Expressway.

Electronic eye monitors the road conditions in the bridge area

On the morning of May 29th, in the monitoring room of the Nangangwa Pump Station on the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway, the display screen is monitoring the road conditions of the Nangangwa section of the highway in real time. Then the staff clicked the mouse, the monitoring picture began to gradually zoom in, and finally focused on a white ruler in the pavement isolation zone, the "1, 2, 3" scale above was clearly visible.

"This is a scale of standing water. Once it rains, someone will monitor it," the staff member said.

The white spherical camera installed on the side slope of the expressway becomes the electronic eye for monitoring the road conditions and scales of the bridge area. "Video monitoring is not enough to accurately display the water accumulation situation." Zhang Jiaji, manager of the mechanical and electrical project of the first maintenance company, said that in order to control the water depth of the road area in real time, a data transmission function was deliberately added to the monitoring system. This is the first time in Beijing Expressway.

If the accumulated water exceeds 27cm, it will call the police

The ruler is located at the lowest point of Nangangwa section, more than 20 meters away from the railway bridge. A 30 cm long, 30 cm wide and 20 cm high water trough is embedded in the green belt. The surface of the water trough is exactly flush with the road surface.

Just like putting chopsticks into a teacup, the ruler is placed in the sink, and the base of the ruler is 20 cm long and the same height as the sink. The bottom scale of the ruler is 0, followed by 1, 2 to 9, with each scale representing 10 cm.

There is also a long strip-shaped data sensor in the center of the bottom of the sink. The sensor is connected to the data cable and finally connected to the roadside monitoring room. If water accumulation occurs on the road surface, the sensor can measure the accurate water accumulation depth according to the water pressure change of the water tank and transmit it in real time. Once the water level reaches the warning line of 27 cm, the monitoring system will automatically send an alarm message to the command platform and send a mobile phone call alarm to the person in charge of the relevant business.

The monitoring system has been installed

There are 2 water accumulation scales in Nangangwa Bridge area. In addition to the one in the green belt, there is also one on the roadside. The terrain here is relatively high. The depth of the accumulated water will be shallower than 27 cm, so the side traffic will not immediately take measures such as road closure.

Zhang Jiaji said that the installation of the entire automated monitoring system has been completed, and more detailed adjustments will be made after the rain.

Drawing on the lessons learned from the large number of vehicles stranded on flooded roads last year, the SFG has also prepared early warning and emergency countermeasures during the flood season. Once the water in this section exceeds 27 cm, road closure measures will be taken immediately to prevent more vehicles from entering the highway. At the same time, report to the superior, and cooperate with the traffic control department to open the U-turn valve, evacuate the vehicle, and turn back.
