In the semiconductor part, Panasonic has five semiconductor factories in Japan, and the Kagoshima factory in Okayama, which produces products such as red lasers, will be shut down and LED components will be shut down in 2014. System integration chips (Systam LSI) will be shut down. The R&D department plans to merge with Fujitsu.
Panasonic's Tianjin plant in mainland China will stop producing lithium-ion batteries for PC/mobile phones. The production of lithium-ion batteries in mainland China will be concentrated in three locations including Beijing, Suzhou and Wuxi, and Panasonic will also reduce the production scale of lithium-ion batteries in Japan. The focus of production is transferred to the mainland.
