The initiative was facilitated by Haier's Shanghai office in coordination with the Yokohama Corporate Management Support Group (IDEC), and the details were subsequently posted on IDEC's official website. This effort marks a significant step toward fostering open innovation within international collaborations.
One of Haier's key requests involves developing a constant-temperature device for electric water heaters. They expressed interest in prototypes that could maintain stable water temperatures while keeping costs below ¥300. The company has outlined six similar technical needs in its initial inquiry, focusing primarily on water heater-related divisions. However, IDEC anticipates that this outreach will soon extend to cover five to six additional business segments.
This move reflects Haier's longstanding ties with Japan, particularly following its acquisition of Sanyo Electric's white goods division in 2012, which was based in Osaka. Haier maintains strong connections with the region, making Osaka an ideal hub for such partnerships. Japanese enterprises interested in collaborating can reach out via an office located in Osaka Prefecture. Additionally, Haier plans to host a symposium in Qingdao, where the company is headquartered, to further explore these opportunities.
