On December 21st and 22nd, 2017, the High-tech LED Annual Meeting and Golden Globe Awards Ceremony, hosted by Gaogong LED, took place in Shenzhen Baoan Dunhill International Grand Prix. The event, themed “The Smoke is Gradually Eliminating the Soft Power and the Deep Integration to Tap New Opportunities,†attracted a wide range of industry professionals and was held in a grand setting.
As one of the most anticipated year-end events for the LED industry, the 2017 High-tech LED Annual Meeting brought together over 400 industry leaders from both domestic and international markets. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on global opportunities and challenges, analyzing trends in technology, market, capital, and industry structure. The meeting aimed to identify key decisions shaping the future of China's and the global LED lighting industry over the next three years.
On the final day of the event, Sunlight Lighting’s General Manager, Guan Yong, delivered a keynote speech titled “The Future of LED Lighting†at the closing ceremony of the session titled “Deep Integration of New Patterns and Strategic Opportunities.†His insights offered valuable perspectives on the evolving landscape of the industry.
Guan Yong highlighted that the top ten lighting export companies accounted for 41% of the country’s total exports between January and September 2017, indicating a growing concentration within the industry. This year’s total exports increased by more than 9% compared to the previous year, with Guangdong leading the market with over 50% of the total share and the highest growth rate. In contrast, Zhejiang, where Sunlight Lighting is based, saw a much lower export rate of only 0.68%.
He explained that Zhejiang has traditionally focused on conventional lighting sources, while Guangdong offers a broader range of products. As LED lighting continues to grow globally, traditional lighting is experiencing a faster decline. This shift largely explains Zhejiang’s lower export proportion.
Looking ahead, Guan Yong emphasized that the development of LED lighting is moving beyond energy efficiency toward sustainable and human-centric solutions. Lighting must evolve to support a "better life," integrating smart systems and focusing on user experience. This includes not only technological innovation but also a shift in business models and product design.
In terms of smart lighting, he pointed out that the industry is facing increasing complexity. Lighting is no longer just about illumination; it now involves integration with other hardware and software systems. Companies must be capable of delivering application-based solutions, managing supply chains effectively, and incorporating new components such as sensors and communication modules.
Moreover, Guan stressed that the ultimate goal of lighting is to enhance human health and well-being. Standards like the American WELL Building Standard are already shaping the future of lighting by emphasizing the role of light in creating healthier environments. Similar efforts are being made in China, with guidelines focusing on improving light quality and environmental impact.
From a technical standpoint, future products will need to be more versatile, adaptable, and intelligent. This means rethinking how lighting meets people’s needs, shifting from energy efficiency to light quality, and considering long-term usage benefits beyond initial costs.
In manufacturing, the trend is moving towards greater automation, customization, and flexibility. Production equipment and parts must meet higher standards of precision and adaptability to meet personalized demands.
Finally, Guan concluded that the LED lighting industry must continue to pursue sustainable development. While the industry is here to stay, it faces ongoing challenges. The question remains: what new technologies will drive its future growth? This is a crucial topic for continued discussion and innovation.
