Can't remember password? Learn these are not afraid

It's no secret that passwords play a crucial role in our digital lives. Most of us face two common problems: either we forget them or they get stolen. As someone who tends to forget things easily, I've learned the importance of finding a secure and practical way to manage passwords. In addition to this, being mindful of how we use our computers and phones is equally important. Today, I'll share some insights on how to keep your passwords safe and improve your online habits.

Passwords Shouldn't Be Too Obvious

Many people still use simple passwords like "123456", "password", or even their name or a short phrase. These are known as "pure white" passwords. Others might go for something slightly more complex, like "123abc". But even these aren't safe. The problem with such passwords is that they're easy to guess and often hard to remember. Using obvious patterns can lead to serious security issues, especially if your personal details—like your birthday or phone number—are known to others.

Three Passwords That Cover Everything

To solve the issue of weak passwords, it's essential to create ones that are both memorable and secure. I’ve developed a system using three different types of passwords, each tailored for specific purposes. This approach not only helps you remember them better but also makes it harder for hackers to guess or crack them.

I divide password-protected areas into three categories: general websites and apps, social media accounts, and shopping or transaction platforms. By assigning unique passwords to each group, you reduce the risk of a single breach affecting multiple accounts. This method significantly improves your overall security.

How to Create Strong Passwords

The first rule when creating passwords is to avoid using personal information like your name, birthday, or any numbers directly related to you. Instead, consider using information from family members or friends, such as your parents' names or birth years. This makes it much harder for others to guess your passwords.

Second, avoid using just letters or numbers alone. Simple combinations like "abc123" are prime targets for brute-force attacks. It’s best to mix letters, numbers, and special characters. Symbols like ~!@#$%^&*() are highly secure and add an extra layer of protection.

For example, take the base "abcd" and "2017". You can rearrange them in different ways for different accounts:

• General websites and apps: A2b0c1d7
• Social media: 2a0b1c7d
• Shopping and transactions: a@b)c!d&

Note: The numbers correspond to the position of the letters on the keyboard when the Shift key is pressed. This adds a level of complexity while keeping it manageable. For high-security accounts like banking, consider using two people’s birthdays (e.g., your parents’) and combine them in a way that only you know.

Don’t Neglect Mobile and Computer Security

One thing to watch out for is short URLs that may hide malicious websites. Also, be cautious of websites with similar domain names—they could be fake. Phishing attempts through SMS or apps are common, so always double-check the source before clicking anything.

When downloading apps, especially on Android, always use official sources. Avoid third-party stores or unknown forums. These are hotspots for malware and scams.

If you find it difficult to remember all your passwords, consider using a password manager like LastPass or Bitwarden. They make it easier to store and manage your credentials securely. While I can't guarantee complete safety, these tools are definitely a step in the right direction.
