[High School Annual Meeting] Sunshine Lighting Officer: The Future of LED Lighting

On December 21st and 22nd, 2017, the High-tech LED Annual Meeting and Golden Globe Awards Ceremony, hosted by Gaogong LED, took place in Shenzhen Baoan Dunhill International Grand Prix. The event, themed “The Smoke is Gradually Eliminating the Soft Power and the Deep Integration to Tap New Opportunities,” brought together industry leaders and over 400 professionals for a comprehensive discussion on global opportunities and challenges in the LED sector. As a key annual event for the LED industry, the meeting provided a platform for top business executives and experts to explore future trends in technology, market, capital, and industry structure. It aimed to identify strategic directions for China and the global LED lighting industry over the next three years. During the closing ceremony of the session titled “Deep Integration of New Patterns and Strategic Opportunities,” Guan Yong, General Manager of Sunlight Lighting, delivered a speech on “The Future of LED Lighting.” His insights highlighted the evolving landscape of the industry, emphasizing the shift from traditional lighting to more sustainable and intelligent solutions. Guan Yong pointed out that the top ten lighting companies accounted for 41% of national exports from January to September 2017, reflecting an increasing concentration within the industry. He also noted a 9% year-on-year growth in total exports, with Guangdong leading in both market share and growth rate. In contrast, Zhejiang, where Sunlight Lighting is based, had a much lower export rate at only 0.68%. This discrepancy was attributed to the province’s historical focus on traditional lighting products, which are now being overshadowed by the rapid growth of LED technology. With LED lighting gaining traction globally, the industry is expected to see a steady increase in market share. Guan emphasized that the future of lighting will be driven by sustainability, energy efficiency, and a human-centric approach. He described a vision where lighting not only illuminates spaces but also enhances well-being, aligning with broader concepts like “good life” and smart living environments. In terms of intelligence, Guan stressed that lighting is no longer just about illumination. It has evolved into a system that integrates with other hardware and offers tailored experiences. Companies must now develop application-based solutions, manage complex supply chains, and invest in both hardware and software capabilities to stay competitive. Looking ahead, he also mentioned the importance of health-focused lighting standards, such as the American WELL standard, which emphasizes the role of light in creating healthier buildings. With ongoing research into healthy building design, the lighting industry is moving toward more sophisticated and user-centered solutions. From a product development perspective, the future demands versatility, adaptability, and advanced functionality. Light quality, user experience, and long-term benefits—such as energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness—are becoming key differentiators. Additionally, manufacturing trends are shifting toward greater automation, customization, and flexibility. Finally, Guan concluded by highlighting the need for continued innovation and sustainable development in the lighting industry. While it remains a vital sector, challenges persist, and the industry must remain agile to embrace new technologies and maintain its long-term growth.
