Howe Technology Announces 8 megapixel Image Sensor Using Nyxel Near Infrared Technology

Recently, OmniVision released the latest product in the image sensor family, the OS08A20 with breakthrough Nyxel Near Infrared (NIR) technology. The OS08A20 is the first 8 megapixel sensor that combines Nyxel technology with Howell's PureCel pixel architecture, enabling the image sensor to capture high-definition video and images in all lighting conditions, making the OS08A20 an ideal professional monitor. System imaging solution.

According to market research firm IHS Markit, the demand for surveillance cameras will continue to grow. It is expected that shipments of global surveillance cameras will exceed 125 million in 2018. In this huge market, there is an increasing demand for high-resolution and night vision-enabled surveillance cameras to accurately capture image detail while maintaining low power consumption. Other similar needs, such as the use of cameras for administrative law enforcement, also show additional growth opportunities.

Brian Fang, Director of Business Development at OmniVision, said: "With 8 megapixel resolution and our industry-leading Nyxel technology, the OS08A20 enables surveillance cameras to capture accurate, detailed images at night without the need for high-power LED illumination. The performance meets the needs of emerging applications such as video analytics, with higher resolution and sensitivity for accurate object and face recognition."

Howe Technology OS08A20 Image Sensor

The Nyxel technology exhibits significant quantum efficiency (QE) enhancements in the 850 nm and 940 nm bands while maintaining high modulation function transitions, allowing the OS08A20 to monitor larger areas compared to conventional techniques. The elimination of external illumination sources not only reduces power consumption, but also increases security for covert surveillance. The OS08A20 is also a color CMOS image sensor with a back-illuminated PureCel pixel structure that captures crisp, detailed color images during the day.

The OS08A20 supports image sizes up to 3840 x 2160 (16:9 aspect ratio) and is capable of capturing high resolution video at 60 frames per second. To increase sensor sensitivity, it uses a 2 x 2 micron pixel size and a 1/2 inch optical format. The image sensor is currently sampling and is expected to begin mass production in the second quarter of 2018.
