Through independent production, Lenovo can take back the procurement rights from ODMs and hand over component orders directly to local Chinese suppliers to build its own ecosystem, which will obviously threaten Taiwanese suppliers.

In 2014, 70% of Dell laptops will be outsourced to Compal, and 50% of consumer orders will be handed to Flextronics. In 2014, HP’s major ODMs were still Quanta and Inventec.
