VR Network recently reported that Faceu, a mobile beauty camera app, has successfully closed its Series C funding round with $50 million. The company plans to use the funds to further refine its product features, enhance real-time image processing capabilities, and boost marketing efforts. Additionally, the team is exploring new product extensions in the AR and social media space, aiming to expand its reach and user engagement.
Launched in January of last year, Faceu allows users to apply dynamic textures, props, and filters in real time, offering a unique and interactive experience. It also includes advanced skin-smoothing effects, which have made it a favorite among younger female users, often referred to as "little fairies" in Chinese internet culture.
As of now, Faceu has accumulated over 250 million total downloads, with a strong female user base—75% of its users are women, and over 70% of active users log in via QQ accounts. The app's monthly active users (MAU) exceed 80 million, and daily video content created by users is stored locally. User-generated shooting data has surged by five times compared to the same period last year, showing impressive growth.
Faceu places a strong emphasis on aesthetics, particularly catering to the preferences of Chinese users. Its high-level skin-smoothing feature sets it apart from other beauty apps that focus more on trend-based stickers. As a result, Faceu has gained significant popularity in third- and fourth-tier cities, where users tend to be more engaged with practical and realistic beauty tools.
The team has always prioritized the social aspects of the app. Last year, they introduced several social features such as Random Video Chat, “Geng Meng Portal,†and LBS-based dating function “Meet Friends.†These additions have helped build a more connected and interactive community within the app, making it not just a beauty tool, but also a platform for social interaction.
