Rigid Foam Water Absorption Meter

The water absorption test of rigid foam is a critical procedure used to evaluate the material's ability to resist moisture. This method follows the standard GB/T 8810-2005, which provides detailed guidelines for determining the water absorption of rigid foams.

Experimental Procedure:

1. Reference Standard: GB/T 8810-2005 – Determination of water absorption of rigid foams.
2. Test Object: Rigid foam samples with dimensions of 150 mm (length) × 150 mm (width) × 75 mm (thickness).
3. Environmental Conditions: The test should be conducted at an ambient temperature of (23±2)°C and a relative humidity of (50±5)%.
4. Soaking Liquid: Distilled water must be used, and the sample should be soaked for at least 48 hours before testing.
5. Sample Preparation: Cut the rigid foam into a square shape measuring 150 mm in width, 150 mm in length, and 75 mm in thickness.
6. Drying and Weighing: Dry the sample completely and weigh it on a balance accurate to 0.1 g. Record the initial dry mass (M1), then remove the sample and reset the balance to zero.
7. Preparation of the Tank: Fill a transparent tank with distilled water, ensuring the water level is above the height of the faucet.
8. Testing Setup: Immerse the hanging net cage in distilled water, remove any air bubbles, and hang it on the lower hook of the balance. Weigh the cage and record its mass (M2), then remove it after recording.
9. Balance Adjustment: Return the balance to zero and adjust the pressure rod upwards by loosening the fixing screws on both sides of the hanging cage.
10. Sample Placement: Place the rigid foam on the disc, centering it on the four bosses. Lower the pressure bar to secure the sample and tighten the screws on the sleeves.
11. Re-soaking and Weighing: Re-submerge the hanging cage with the rigid foam in distilled water, gently brush or agitate to remove any trapped air bubbles. Then, weigh the sample again while it is submerged and record the mass (M3), accurate to 0.1 g.

This procedure ensures accurate measurement of water absorption, providing valuable data for quality control and material performance evaluation. The rigid foam water absorption meter is an essential tool in industries such as construction, packaging, and insulation, where moisture resistance is crucial.
