Tesla factory accident rate exceeds industry level, why is it safe?

In the tech detail section, you can find a range of high-quality components and products. The first image showcases advanced micro LED manufacturers offering high-power LED lamp beads with 1W green light using Sanan 30mil chips. Next, there's an industrial-grade SKHynix EMMC 8G model, H26M31001HPR, designed for demanding applications. Another slide highlights an industrial router crystal with dimensions 3.2x2.5mm (3225), operating at 26MHz with various frequency tolerances. Lastly, the display features solid capacitors in patch aluminum electrolysis form, ensuring top-tier quality from the factory. The accompanying images provide visual context for each product, while the thumbnails serve as navigation options to view different slides. According to reports, on Friday, Silicon Valley's "Iron Man," Elon Musk, hosted a grand delivery event at Tesla’s Fremont factory. He delivered a speech filled with energy, much like a rock star on stage. Despite the slow growth in production capacity, Musk announced that he aims to increase the monthly output of Model 3 to 20,000 units by year-end. However, he admitted the process would be extremely challenging, stating, “We may go through six months of manufacturing hell.” Employees at the facility have already begun to feel the pressure. A letter was submitted to an independent board member just three days after the event, expressing concerns about health and safety. Workers described daily accidents that not only affected morale but also caused delays. Many employees were injured and had to leave work, some of whom could have been saved with better conditions. In May, Worksafe, a California-based worker safety organization, released a detailed report analyzing Tesla's workplace injuries. Their findings showed that Tesla's recordable accident rate was 8.8% in 2015, higher than the industry average of 6.7%. This rate even exceeded that of sawmills and slaughterhouses, highlighting serious safety concerns. This issue is not new. In February, a Tesla employee named Moran shared his experiences on Medium, criticizing the working environment. He urged workers to unite and improve their conditions. He expressed hope that Musk, known for innovation, would treat employees with more respect. Workers want transparency about job risks and opportunities for improvement. Additionally, they desire clear pathways for promotion and fair compensation. Many have worked for years without being promoted. The starting wage at the Fremont factory is $18 per hour, below the automotive industry average of $25.58. Employees believe that clarity on promotions and rewards directly impacts product quality. Moreover, workers feel they lack the freedom to voice concerns due to fear of retaliation. In response, a Tesla spokesperson stated, “We’ve faced many challenges learning to be a car manufacturer, but we look forward. After making numerous improvements, our accident rate has dropped to the lowest in the industry.”
