Sony PS VR early experience: wearing a comfortable game experience is excellent

VR is a magical thing. As long as you wear a helmet, you can explore a new virtual world, like climbing Everest, or facing dinosaurs that have been extinct for thousands of years. However, the benefits of VR are not only this, but its most obvious application is to help improve the user's visual perception and bring the user a full range of experiences. In order to make a difference in this area, Sony's PlayStation VR has already made a great wish.

The Sony VR platform will be available for sale in October this year. This week, I was fortunate enough to test several masterpieces on the platform in advance. However, since most of the current PSVR games are still in the development stage, the games that the authors experience are still just demos, not finished products. Even so, the demo feelings that I tried are not far from the finished product.

The PS VR has a separate strap that secures it firmly to your head. It's a bit like a visor, which fixes the eyecup at a comfortable angle. The one-button adjustment on the helmet allows the player to easily adjust the size of the strap. Not only that, the helmet also allows players to adjust the device screen design, allowing players to adjust the distance between the screen and the face, which is undoubtedly a good news for players who wear glasses. Overall, Sony's products are superior to their competitors in terms of regulation.

PSVR provides players with two different ways of handling: Players can choose to use the standard PlayStation DualShock controller; or they can use Sony's somatosensory handles according to game requirements.

"Until Dawn: Rush of Blood" is the most exciting game I ever played. In the game you will always sit on a cart and shoot the pigs (zombies) that appear on both sides. There will be a sudden darkness in the progress of the car. At this time, the enemy will attack you in the dark and you cannot see them. Players can use Sony's somatosensory handles to control the gun in the game - in fact this is your only defense. It can be said that playing "Until Dawn: Bloody" on a 2D screen is already scary enough. Playing the game in VR will make you scare you!

The next game on the Sony PSVR platform is "Waltz of the Wizard," a game that lets you think of endless magic. It can be said that "Wolfer Waltz" is a game specially developed for VR and somatosensory handles. The game places the player in the medieval world. Players need to pick up a ball with a charm and throw it into a steaming cauldron. Players only need to soak their hands in the potion, and then they can change their shape by touching the object - a bit like a gold hand. Of course, you can also pick up objects and rotate them, a bit like another VR game "Job Simulator". It is very depressing that this game is always played by the author, but I have to admit that the game itself is very smooth. In combination with Sony's somatosensory handle, "Witches' Waltz" shows VR players a real sense of interaction in the game.

The author also tried some interesting puzzle games. The game "Tumble VR Balance" is a bit more complicated. It is like a virtual "stacked block" and is Sony's exclusive PSVR game. The game is a puzzle game with “building block” as the main gameplay, which puts a test on the player’s sense of space and psychological quality. Players need to use the handles to manipulate the different shapes of blocks in the game and stack them at the specified height without falling down. In the game players can view their masterpieces from any angle. Compared to 2D screens, the VR environment allows players to examine the work more thoroughly – this is exactly what makes VR “Balanced Building Blocks” attractive.

"Supercell Hypercube" is Sony's first-person puzzle game. The game is a bit like a wall game in a variety show. There will be a wall in the game that will continue to approach the player and there will be holes in the shape on the walls. The player needs to rotate the object of the specified shape so that it can just pass through the wall gradually. The game does not have to be played in the VR environment like the "Rule of Balanced VR", but it will be more fun if you play in the VR environment.

It is too early to compare the Sony PSVR with other high-end VR helmets on the market (such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive). However, PSVR does have its advantages. Rift is priced at $599 (approximately RMB 3,900) and Vive is priced at RMB 6,888. It is obviously cheaper than PSVR - they only have $399 (approximately RMB 2,600) and are more comfortable to wear. Regardless of how high-end expensive host computers are required for other competitive helmets, PSVR only requires players to have a PlayStation 4.

However, before Sony introduced PSVR in October this year, both competing products will launch their own upgraded versions, and then there will be more and better games appear on these two platforms. Not only that, the somatosensory Oculus Touch will also make its debut later this year. However, Sony has sold more than 30 million PS4s all over the world. I believe PSVR can still become the mainstream VR game device.
