Don't underestimate USB Type-C, it is changing an industry

When a user purchases a new device, the Universal Serial Bus (USB) type-c solves the connection nightmare that most users face. This new standard will be "destroyed" (Editor: The word destruction here is to emphasize how much the USB type-c changes will be!) USB devices have both production and sales methods, but this is a good thing!

If you have noticed recent news about new products released by Google, Samsung, and Apple, you may have discovered that these new devices use a new, smooth USB interface called USB type-c.

First, Samsung launched the USB type-c in the new smart phone Galaxy S6 released by Mobile World Congress (MWC). After that, Apple introduced the latest and ultra-thin notebook MacBook, in order to meet people's needs. Mobile, ultra-thin, the new MacBook has only a built-in USB Type-C interface and a headphone jack as the only physical interface to the device.

Don't underestimate USB Type-C

Finally, Google, which doesn't want to be left behind by other players, launched the latest ChomeBook Pixel two months ago. It has two USB Type-C interfaces, one on each side of the notebook. However, this notebook is not only inside. Two USB Type-C interfaces are built, two USB 3.0 Type-A interfaces are also provided, and an SD card reader slot is provided.

Two months ago, Google launched the ChomeBook Pixel.

Using USB Type-C is a great benefit for manufacturers! The USB Type-C can transmit power (programming: power), data and display through a single connector, cable and port. Its interface size is the same as the micro-USB connector, it can supply 100W (W), high-speed data transmission (current USB Type-C uses USB 3.1 specification, transmission rate can reach 10Gbit/s), and meets the bandwidth required for 4K display. .

Another great feature of the USB Type-C is backward compatibility, which means that people no longer need to plug in the cable with their eyes open. (Editor's note: This is to say that the user does not have to squint to determine which interface is a USB Type-C or a general USB slot, anyway, plug it in!)

However, this new interface still poses some problems for consumers and manufacturers. Currently, most devices still use the typical USB Type-A - which can be found on most computers - or some of the distinctive tablet devices and smart phones (except for Apple devices) are still used. Micro-USB. It can be found that there are more than 1 billion USB interfaces shipped each year.

When consumers buy a new MacBook or Galaxy S6, they have to face the fact that they can't connect these new gadgets to the old USB device, and they need to buy an extra adapter. Similarly, the lack of additional connectors also allows Smooth connection becomes very difficult.

In the case of MacBook (only one USB Type-C), to charge the computer at the same time and use peripheral devices such as external monitors or pointing devices (such as USB touchpad or mouse), Apple believes that most users will pass through Bluetooth connectivity is used to connect these perimeters, so there is no need to have more ports.

Some rules need to be changed! Last year, the European Union approved the final draft of the new Radio Equipment DirecTIve to replace the 1999 R&TTE DirecTIve on Radio Equipment and Telecommunica TIons Terminal Equipment. There is a specification in this new directive - all mobile phones and tablet devices need to use universal chargers in the EU - because they are controversial, they will not be fully effective until 2017. Once the new directive is in effect, all handset manufacturers are required to provide a charger that uses the Micro-USB interface (subject to CENELEC EN 62684 and ETSI EN 301489-34 specifications).

As early as 2009, the EU reached an agreement with 10 leading manufacturers, including Samsung, Sony and Apple, hoping to reduce the amount of waste generated by dropping the phone charger, but the agreement is only valid until the end of 2012. Apple also released the iPhone 5 with the new Lightning connector in Europe. Later, Apple announced that consumers can choose to purchase a special Lightning-to-Micro USB adapter to charge the iPhone 5 using the previous standard charger. The adapter is only sold in Europe and is priced at 19 euros ($27). Since consumers always buy Lightning chargers and iPhones, this process is simply a waste. (Editor's note: You have to pay more for your new phone...)

Don't underestimate USB Type-C

A dazzling array of charging lines is a waste and not environmentally friendly.

The market knows too early that Apple will be committed to importing USB Type-C in all its new products. However, Apple's built-in USB Type-C products are only the new MacBook, and until now, the company still uses the Lightning connector to display more power on the market than other micro-USB devices, such as the iPad. But after entering the era of USB Type-C, this will no longer be a problem.

In the long run, USB Type-C will be a technology that benefits everyone. It can help reduce e-waste because it is theoretically possible to charge all devices with the same charger. In addition, USB Type-C can end consumers' need to prepare different charging lines for products of different brands. (Editor's note: The author of this article is happy to say that I can't wait to see the built-in Type-C iPhone and iPad come out!)

At the same time, there will be some problems in the supply chain. Many new devices still use the old connectors when they are developed, and most of the external devices are designed to use other kinds of USB. Since the USB Type-C is compatible with the USB 3.1 specification, the external device manufacturer will be quite easy to The other end of the connection cable provides a USB Type-C, but this adds extra cost and logistics.

I believe that most new generation notebook users will eventually purchase a USB Type-C hub (such as a USB Type-C (for charging), high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) and USB Type- A connector hub, which sells for $79 at an Apple store; a simple USB Type-C to Type-A adapter, which costs $19 in the Apple Store, and this number is in line with Apple's typical pricing strategy. Consistent, it is really a bargain! !
