Qualcomm plans to acquire chip maker Ikanos for $47 million
Qualcomm announced that its subsidiary, Qualcomm Atheros, has reached an acquisition agreement with Ikanos Communications, Inc., a company that provides ultra-high-performance broadband network semiconductors and software for enterprise office and gateway solutions. The transaction amount is 17.08 million shares in the form of cash of 2.75 US dollars per share, and the total transaction volume is estimated to be USD 47 million. This move confirms that Qualcomm intends to further expand its business areas and services beyond the existing cellular radio technologies in the 3G/4G market and other communication chips for multiple uses. Under the agreement, Qualcomm's Atheros division will acquire Ikanos for $2.75 per share in cash and assume the latter's debt. The Ikanos Board of Directors unanimously approved the deal. Qualcomm said it expects to complete the transaction before the end of the year.
