As an equipment enthusiast and a mouse collector, I usually buy two or three mice each year. From budget models costing just a few dollars to mid-range ones around $100, and eventually reaching the $300 range. Over the years, I've accumulated more than a dozen mice, most of which are Logitech. Others include Microsoft, Pyramid, Dell, and Xiaomi. I’ve never bought a Razer mouse because, to me, their flashy RGB lighting doesn’t align with my aesthetic. However, Razer has always had a special place in my heart, especially since my first mouse ever was a zero-yuan “Golden Snake†from 2009.
Recently, when Razer released the understated "Rasmus" mouse, I felt a strong urge to get it. The design is named after the "Thorn Scale Tree," which I believe is a very elegant name. After seeing the product, I was even more convinced that this mouse would be something special.
The Razer Atheris Rapier Scales comes in a sleek black matte finish with no LED lights, giving it a low-key but commanding look. It’s a wireless mouse with both Bluetooth and 2.4GHz connectivity options. The official price is 399 yuan, but I managed to get it for 333 yuan after a few price drops and coupons.
Inside the box, there's the mouse, a battery, a small booklet, some stickers, and a card with a message from the Razer team. The manual is only in traditional Chinese, which might be a bit inconvenient for some users. The mouse itself feels solid, with a comfortable grip and a unique open-back design that makes it stand out from other Razer products.
Compared to the Logitech MX Anywhere series, the Atheris is slightly smaller and lighter, making it highly portable. Its size fits well in my hand, and after a few hours of use, I found it quite comfortable for both gaming and office work. Although it’s not as refined as the MX Anywhere in terms of performance, it still holds its own, especially for someone who values portability.
The software, Razer Synapse Thundercloud, allows for customization of settings like DPI and button functions. It also shows battery life down to the percentage, which is handy. While the lighting features aren't necessary for this model, the overall experience is smooth and user-friendly.
In terms of value, the Atheris is priced fairly for its features, though it’s slightly pricier than some competitors. If you're looking for a compact, stylish, and functional mouse, this could be a great option. But if you prefer larger mice or are sensitive to price, you might want to consider alternatives.
Overall, I’m happy with my purchase. The design is unique, the build quality is excellent, and the dual connectivity options add convenience. It’s definitely one of the more interesting mice I’ve owned, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up buying another one soon.
