General Electric is intensifying its presence in Europe to drive innovation and foster collaboration within the industrial Internet of Things (IoT) sector, specifically for European customers and developers. As part of this expansion, GE has announced the establishment of a new "Digital Chip Factory" headquarters in Paris, which will create 250 local jobs. This move marks a key step in GE’s broader strategy to strengthen its position in Europe and support its partners through cutting-edge digital solutions.
The Paris facility will serve as a central hub for IoT innovation, aiming to bring together engineers, developers, and industry leaders to explore new possibilities in smart manufacturing and digital transformation. Jeff Immelt, Chairman and CEO of General Electric, emphasized that Europe has the talent and infrastructure to lead the next productivity revolution. He stated, “The digital industry is at the heart of this mission. GE is committed to helping Europe develop its own Industrial Internet, which will empower companies to turn data into insights and insights into results.â€
In addition to the Paris Digital Chip Factory, three other initiatives have launched this year under GE’s global digital program. These projects are designed to nurture local startups and provide a collaborative environment for developing new applications in the Industrial Internet. Developers can leverage GE’s Predix operating system, a powerful platform that supports the creation of scalable and secure industrial applications.
Currently, over 11,000 developers are using the Predix platform, with more than 100 applications already adopted by customers worldwide. Companies like Capgemini and Scottish Power are among the early adopters, with Scottish Power’s Smart Grid project utilizing GE’s digital control systems. Immelt noted, “Since we launched the GE digital business and released the Predix operating system, nearly 11,000 developers have joined our ecosystem. We’re driving $500 million in productivity gains, and it’s time for the industry to evolve and unlock long-term value.â€
To further support innovation, GE has also partnered with French government agencies and NUMA, France’s first entrepreneurial accelerator focused on identifying and nurturing high-potential ideas. Marie-Vorgan Le Barzic, CEO of NUMA, said, “GE’s decision to establish its European headquarters in Paris is a significant opportunity. We look forward to working closely with the Digital Chip Factory to build an industrial network and foster a vibrant ecosystem of startups, data scientists, developers, and software experts. Together, we aim to address complex industrial challenges with innovative solutions.â€
This expansion reflects GE’s growing commitment to Europe as a center for digital innovation, reinforcing its role as a leader in the Industrial Internet and supporting the region’s transition toward smarter, more connected industries.
