I recently encountered an issue with my LG rear-projection TV model RT-44A10. The problem occurs when the image is turned on. At times, the contrast and brightness fluctuate significantly. When the image is dark, the screen becomes out of sync vertically. After about 10 to 20 minutes of booting up, the picture gradually improves, but the contrast still remains low. The same issue also appears when using an AV signal input. To troubleshoot, I used a hot air blower to heat the AV board. After doing so, the image returned to normal. This indicated that the fault was located on the AV board. However, once it cooled down, the problem reoccurred. I then tried heating the board again, focusing on IC202. As I heated this area, the image started to appear, and the brighter it got, the better the display became. I carefully examined the board for any signs of moisture or damage, but found nothing obvious. From past experience, I know that electrolytic capacitors on convergence boards in LG TVs can sometimes develop issues, especially if they have short legs that may crack over time. So, I decided to test each capacitor one by one using a soldering iron. When I heated VC202 (a 10U electrolytic capacitor), the image improved significantly. I then removed the capacitor and tested it, and it showed no capacitance at all. I replaced it with a standard electrolytic capacitor, and the problem was resolved. It seems like the faulty capacitor was the root cause of the display issues.
