This process involves melting alumina and slowly pulling a seed crystal from the molten material, creating a flawless single crystal. Producing a 450 kg sapphire requires precise control over temperature, pressure, and time, making it one of the most technically demanding processes in materials science.
The success of the 450 kg sapphire is not just about size—it’s about quality and control. According to Ouyang Penggen, general manager and chief engineer at Jinghuan Electronics, the company now owns the entire production chain, from raw material selection to final processing. This self-sufficiency gives China greater leverage in international markets and reduces dependency on foreign suppliers.
