Infineon Introduces Fast Diodes Optimized for Body Diode Hard Rectification

Infineon Technologies AG has launched the 200V and 250V OptiMOS FD series, enhancing its medium-voltage product lineup. As the next-generation power MOSFETs designed for hard diode rectification, these devices offer improved reliability and durability, with reduced overshoot voltage and lower reverse recovery losses. This makes them ideal for achieving more stable and efficient systems, especially in hard-switching applications. The OptiMOS FD family is well-suited for a range of applications, including communication infrastructure, industrial power supplies, Class D audio amplifiers, motor control (for 48–110V systems), and DC/AC inverters. One of the key advantages of the OptiMOS FD family is its optimized reverse recovery charge (Qrr), which meets the highest performance standards. Compared to standard 200V and 250V OptiMOS devices, the Qrr of the FD version is reduced by 40%. This improvement significantly lowers overshoot voltage, reducing the need for snubber circuits and increasing system reliability. By minimizing energy loss during switching, these MOSFETs help engineers design more efficient and cost-effective solutions. Richard Kuncic, Senior Director of DC/DC Business at Infineon Technologies, stated, "Infineon continues to push the boundaries of what's possible within the 200V and 250V voltage class. Setting new benchmarks is part of our commitment to innovation. The OptiMOS FD family builds on our proven switching performance, helping customers reduce engineering costs and simplify design processes—especially in challenging hard-switching environments." The OptiMOS FD series also brings enhanced performance in terms of hard commutation durability, making it suitable for more demanding conditions such as higher dv/dt, di/dt, and current density. This not only improves system robustness but also simplifies the design process, allowing engineers to focus on other critical aspects of their projects. In addition, the OptiMOS FD offers significant improvements in on-resistance (RDS(on)) and figure-of-merit (FOM). Compared to alternative devices, RDS(on) can be reduced by up to 45%, while FOM (QgxRdson) can be lowered by up to 65%. These enhancements result in higher efficiency and greater power density, making the OptiMOS FD an excellent choice for high-performance power electronics. The OptiMOS FD200V series includes D2PAK packages with RDS(on) as low as 11.7mΩ and TO-220 packages with RDS(on) of 12mΩ. The OptiMOS FD250V series features a TO-220 package with RDS(on) of 22mΩ. Both voltage levels are available in multiple package options, ensuring flexibility for various application needs. Samples are also available, enabling engineers to evaluate the performance of these advanced MOSFETs in real-world scenarios.
