Diodes motor drives make the cooling system more sensitive

Diodes Incorporated has launched the AM4964 motor driver, a high-performance solution designed to control fan speed and optimize cooling systems in personal computers, servers, and industrial equipment. This driver receives pulse width modulation (PWM) input signals and temperature data from a thermistor, allowing it to automatically adjust fan speed based on ambient temperature and system load. The AM4964 is a single-phase full-wave brushless DC motor driver that delivers peak currents of up to 1A at a 12V supply voltage. It dynamically regulates motor speed between low and high settings, ensuring efficient cooling while maintaining quiet operation. The device simplifies configuration with only three external resistors, enabling users to easily set the desired operating point and maximum PWM output. It offers two output options: a speed output (FG) for tachometer feedback and an operational output (RD) for status monitoring. Additionally, it provides a bias output for differential unbuffered Hall sensors and dedicated inputs for both three- and four-pin Hall sensors, making it ideal for precise rotor position detection. The AM4964 is highly integrated and comes in a compact TSSOP-20EP package. It includes an internal oscillator, eliminating the need for external capacitors, and features a minimum speed setting circuit along with adjustable alpha slope technology to accommodate various speed profile requirements. For enhanced protection, the driver includes thermal shutdown, rotor stall detection, and automatic restart functionality to prevent damage to the motor coil.
