Microsoft Shows HoloLens for Mobile Holography

Eskimo Microsoft's HoloLens department recently showed us an interesting application direction: Holoportation. With the help of this technology, users wearing HoloLens will be able to see another person's holographic projection, which will also make a very futuristic communication method a reality.

Prior to this, holographic transmissions had to be carried out in a specially-designed room filled with cameras, while also requiring high-speed network connections as support. However, Microsoft Research managed to reduce the related technical requirements, especially in terms of data transmission bandwidth, and it also made holographic delivery a mobile experience.

As we have seen in the presentation video, the battery packs, cameras and other necessary components needed for holographic transmission are small enough to fit into the car, and the entire data transmission can be performed while the vehicle is in motion.

Microsoft’s research team stated that their holographic transmission can be performed at a speed of 30-50 Mbps, a 97% reduction compared to standard devices. At the same time, there are only two depth-of-field sensing cameras they use. Of course, if you want to get a higher hologram quality, you can increase the number of cameras.

As for the next R&D goal, it is clear that the network bandwidth required for further reduction of holographic transmission is still to be able to be carried out under the cellular network.

If this project is successful, we may soon be able to use "HoloLens" or "HTC Vive" devices and "far-faced" interactions with friends thousands of miles away.

Sapphire Crystal

Sapphire is a single crystal form of Al2O3, with a favorable combination of chemical, mechanical and optical properties. Sapphire is resistant to attack by strong acids, enabling use in a corrosive atmosphere. It is resistant to scratch and abrasion with very high Knoop hardness of 1800 parallel to the optic axis (C-axis), 2200 perpendicular to the optic axis.
