Philips ActiveSite smart connected lighting system makes Spain's landmarks look new

The cloud-based Philips ActiveSite Smart Connected Lighting System helps users monitor lighting from the cloud and arrange lighting shows from anywhere in the world.

Madrid, Spain – Philips Lighting, the global lighting leader of Royal Philips, uses a new cloud-based smart connected lighting system that gives Spain's two landmarks a new look.

The Spanish Oil Company Headquarters Building (CEPSA) is one of the most famous skyscrapers in Spain, while Baño de la Cava is a World Heritage Site in Toledo, with Philips lighting in two different historical buildings. The groundbreaking ActiveSite smart connected lighting system.

Philips ActiveSite is a cloud-based smart connected lighting system that allows administrators to monitor, maintain and manage the entire building's lighting from anywhere in the world via an Internet access system. The system, in conjunction with Philips LED lighting products, saves up to 75% of energy while helping lighting managers to illuminate modern skyscrapers or historic buildings anytime and anywhere, presenting colorful lighting effects. The Philips ActiveSite Smart Interconnect Lighting System has been used in several world-renowned landmarks including the San Francisco Bay Bridge and the Allianz Arena, home of Bayern Munich Football Club.

Light up the skyline of Madrid

The Spanish Petroleum Corporation Headquarters Building (CEPSA) is the second tallest skyscraper in Spain, located in the heart of Madrid, Spain. More than 2,500 Philips ColorKinetics ColorBlast Powercore luminaires are installed on the façade. Utilizing rich lighting colors and an innovative management system, Philips has created a beautiful light show for the building, making it the brightest spot in the Madrid skyline. The fascinating lighting effects not only decorate the festivals and celebrations, but also help the owners further expand their brand influence.

The lighting system was designed by landscape communication expert, Marc Largent from Magic Monkey. ActiveSite Intelligence

Interconnected lighting systems provide 24-hour monitoring of building lighting, providing maintenance personnel with precise positioning and keeping maintenance time and costs to a minimum.

“The interconnected lighting system we installed on the facade of the Madrid headquarters building was great, making our building a splendid feature on the capital skyline,” said Jonathan Keeling, brand and communications manager for Petronas. “This system gives us a high degree of flexibility, allowing us to arrange exciting lighting shows and customized lighting effects anytime, anywhere. Lighting managers can remotely monitor weekends and holidays without affecting other schedules.”

Light up world heritage

The Toledo Baño de la Cava project demonstrates that the Philips ActiveSite Smart Connected Lighting Platform is not only suitable for both contemporary and historical buildings.

Baño de la Cava is a Moorish bridge built in the 12th century. Philips uses advanced intelligent lighting systems to create fascinating lighting effects that reflect the classic beauty of this historic building and effectively promote the development of the local tourism industry. According to data from the Tourism Authority of Toledo, the number of visitors increased by 17% during the most recent holidays.

The Madrid City Council chose the Philips ActiveSite Smart Interconnect Lighting System and Philips Color Kinetics LED luminaires, not only because they offer a variety of static modes, but also for dynamic lighting show control, and because of their cloud-based systems, they can help managers monitor remotely in real time. Before the holidays and celebrations, the system can help users arrange lighting shows in advance. Managers can remotely log in to the platform via a laptop or tablet to monitor the lights in real time. In addition, the system features remote intelligent diagnostics that provide maintenance personnel with precise location of fault locations.

Software as a service

The Philips ActiveSite Smart Interconnect Lighting System is a software-as-a-service (SaaS, Software as a Service) platform based on the Internet and cloud computing. Users can log in to the system anytime, anywhere via the Internet and reduce the time and cost of hardware, software and maintenance with timely software updates. Lighting system managers can monitor multiple systems on a unified platform. The platform provides email alerts, fault alerts, and operational record analysis to help managers better understand system performance and track their health throughout their lifecycle.
