The smart speaker satisfaction survey is as high as 89%!
Apple's smart speaker, the HomePod, has only been on the market for less than two weeks, yet it has already captured 3% of the smart speaker market, according to a recent report by Loup Ventures. The research firm conducted a survey of 520 U.S. consumers and found that 31% of them own a smart speaker. Among these users, Amazon’s Echo leads with 55% of the market share, followed by Google Home at 23%, and Microsoft’s Cortana at 15%. The HomePod, despite being a new entrant, holds 3%, while other brands collectively make up 4%.
In terms of user satisfaction, 89% of smart speaker owners reported being satisfied (59%) or very satisfied (30%). Gene Munster, the analyst behind the report, noted that consumer expectations for smart speakers are relatively low, as most tasks performed are simple. This likely contributes to the high satisfaction rate.
Interestingly, even though Cortana scored only 57% in the test—below the passing threshold—it still performs basic functions like playing Spotify playlists, providing weather updates, and answering simple questions.
The survey also revealed that nearly 40% of users primarily use their smart speakers for listening to music, which remains the most popular function. About 31% use them for weather forecasts, while 10% use them for sports, news, communication, and smart home control.
Consumers are showing strong interest in voice-controlled devices, and the popularity of smart speakers has surpassed that of smartphones in some aspects. Most users said they wouldn’t want to go back to a world without smart speakers, highlighting how deeply integrated these devices have become in daily life.
