5-inch full HD AMOLED display costs less than similar LCDs

According to market research firm IHS, the cost of a 5-inch full HD AMO LED display is now $14.3 ($17.1 in the fourth quarter of 2015), which is lower than the cost of a similar LCD display of $14.7 ($15.7 in the fourth quarter of 2015). ). IHS said producing a 5-inch Full HD LCD display material costs $ 9.2, a non-material costs (including depreciation) $ 540; produced a AMO led display material costs $ 7.2, a non-material cost of $ 7.2.

Although the IHS data has not been determined to be correct, the price of AMOLED is steadily declining. According to a December 2015 report, SDC plans to lower the price of AMOLEDs to make them more competitive than LCDs, but it would be a bit strange if SDC lowered the price to be lower than LCD.

IHS explained that Samsung's intention to lower the price of AMOLED is because the company has increased its operational efficiency (according to IHS, SDC is now operating at 95% efficiency) and has improved its customer base, and the depreciation costs of some production lines have ceased to exist.

Interestingly, in July 2014, DisplaySearch predicted that the price of AMOLED would be lower than LCD in two years, so it seems that this prediction is correct.
